1-Lighting And The Effect On The Audience:
In order to create a good shot applying the lighting is very important. To create the warm lighting in the shot i closed all the curtains and turned off the lights and changed the bulb in the light to cretae the dull orange effect. This gives out a warm lighting which then reflects on the representation of the artist. The warm lighting suggests that she is a weaker person looking for sympathy, it makes her appeal as a quiet soft person rather than a harsh person that just stands out. I did this purposely because she needed to be represented as a small quiet person in order to contrast with her ex-boyfriend who choses to ignore her in every situation. The warm lighting provides sympathy to the character which then reflects on the audience and emphasis her representation of a small helpless girl who is losing a fiight to the one she loves which then makes them feel sympathy for her putting the audience on her side. The audience want to feel a part of the artist and by applying the correct stylistics they can embrace her emotions and feel part of the story/narrative. The dark lighting contrasts with other scene such as the opening scene and scene 3 this is done purposely to create a affect on the audience; in the opening scene you see the two when they are together in brighter lighting showing how they were happy and everything was perfect then you cut to the chorus where she is without him and not accepted therefore the lighting in darker, then in scene three you see her ripping apart a photograph of him the lighting is brighter as she has become a stronger person feeling happier that she is free from his games. The lighting continues to do this throughout the video implying how she is back and forth and stuck in her emotions.
2-Mise-En-Scene And The Effect:
Mise-En-Scene is an important part to any media element. The mise-en-scene send messages to the audience in order for them to be able to read the text and the representation of the artist. For example if the artist was wearing a track-suit it would signal different messages to the audience they would expect a more up beat rap soundtrack to match. The costume signifis that she is at school and how she feels out of place compared to the others. This is clearly stated in the video from when she looks around for a seat and she can't find anywhere to sit. This highlights that she is not accepted without her ex boyfriend the lighting compliments this idea which again emphasis the idea that she is in a weaker position against her boyfriend and the audience take her side and feel sympathy for her. The school uniform also connotes how she was young and naive when she fell in love; it connotes how she thought he was her everything but he turned out to be lieing. The lighting is warming therefore gives out red tones but the curtains also have red roses on them siginifying love along with the roses the rest of the room is green which argues that she is sick of falling in love. This is an important setting relating. I caught the sun just as it was going down so that i could capture the warm lighting i wanted. The warm lighting represents how she is a warming person the woods is a conventional setting for findind the innocent; it also emphasis that the person is alone which connotes how the artist is feeling. I chose this specific costume because it was red and red connotes love and heartache it also has little yellow flowers on which can connote the idea of happiness but it also reflects on the representation of innocence.
Here are images taken from my different sets. Image 1 is where i filmed the scene inside a school and image 2 is an image of the actress going through the words on her docking station. It was an important process because we needed to be sure she knew every word perfectly so that i could get the lip syncing right. The other images are part of verse two, the images show the locations of filming and the effort that was made to create the perfect set up.
