Mry Actress

Here is an image of my actress (Abbie) who is going to play the part of Taylor Swift. I chose this person because she fit the look of taylor swift, the blonde hair connotes innocence which is an important part of the sequence. I chose Abbie because she is a reliable person and available when i want to film. She does not go to wyke she lives nearby me and attends Withernsea High School this is more suitable because it means she is closer to pick up and take to locations. She is studying Dance which makes her a confident and comfortable performer which will reflect in my video. It is also a great exerience for Abbie because she wishes to study dance into the future and she can use the video to show her ability to fit different styles and shows she is comfortable infront of the camera.

Our Final Edited Video.

Synopsis

The artist replays through her relationship with her ex boyfriend from the beginning it shows in various numbers of medium shots and close ups how happy they were and late on in the music video it shows them arguing and the relationship breaking down at the end of the video we see how her performance has gone from stronger to weaker connoting how the relationship and emotion has effected her personal behaviour. At the end of the video she burns a book that contains their past and present and afterwards a close up of her smiling is shown to finish the video to express her freedom and happiness of being able to move on.

Media Anamatic

Here is the changed anamatic without the song this is because i wanted to show how lingering my shots where and that these are how short the shots should be however the anamatic is only 2:19 long. In order to create shots to fit with my music video i created a new storyboard to show the changes and developments of my creative project.

Evaluation Of Re-creation Of Lucy Rose Video

The task was to re-create a 30 second sequence from and existing music video. We had to do the task in Groups. In my group there was me, Mark, Kate, Charlotte and Dave. We all knew each other so it was easy to get along and organise planning within the group. We all had allocated roles:

Charlotte
Filming
Dave
Director
Harriet
Edit
Mark
Producer
Kate
Editor

Our first problem was that the storyboards we created over the summer where all too hard to film in the college. This is because mine was set in an old shack in a forest and Dave and Marks where set on a boat. To resolve this whilst everyone else was working on their production; we had to sit together and create a new idea. After the lesson we had chosen the song and I decided that I would create the storyboard for us all to follow. Which was a good idea, because we used this to help find locations and get the composition of the shot correct.

We chose Charlotte to be in our 30 second sequence because she was already in our group meaning that we knew she was reliable and would turn up to the lesson so that we could film. She was also the most familiar with the song chose because that is what she listened to. Music can affect the way you dress and the way you look you inspire to be like your favourite artist so you want to appear like them. In this case Charlotte did dress a lot like her and her hair was very similar and natural so she fit the sequence really well.

We organised to shoot in our lesson times and then we would edit in our study periods. This worked really well we managed to get the filming done and have plenty of time for editing. The film locations we found in or around college and they were very similar. One shot was done from a balcony and we managed to get access to one in the college. The shot by shot comparison I did proves how similar our shots where I think it was a really good achievement.

One location which was difficult to find was the mid-shot of Lucy Rose in a building with an old fashioned window. We didn’t have any in college like that so we made one. We used the classroom in oak 38 then stuck masking tape on the window to create the correct pattern, the backlight then turned the masking tape black on the camera and they looked like real window frames. The backlight however became difficult as it turned Charlotte into a black figure and you could not make out anything else. To solve this problem we used the big lights and put them up in oak 38. At first we just had one light we tried it from all different angles and positions but we still couldn’t achieve the shot we wanted, Charlotte was still just a dark figure. We then tried the shot with another light and placed each light to each side of Charlotte. Here we got what we wanted from the shot we was able to see her and get the background dark and highlight her in the end it turned out to be the best shot we created.

Something we did find difficult was lip-syncing. When we was shooting the film we followed the storyboard and thought it was all going correcting the lip-syncing looked perfect. However in the song the artist repeats the same bits of the song just in different tempos and we realised we had recorded the same tempo start for a numerous of shots. The problem occurred when we put the footage onto the editing suite and we didn’t have enough time to go and re-shoot so we had to work with what we had. To try and solve the problem we increased the tempo of the shot this improved it slightly however it was still not perfect. It made us realise that we need to plan more effectively in our final piece and make sure we had the correct parts to the song.

Overall I think that the task set provided us with some great new skills. At the beginning of the task we didn’t have much filming experience or how to construct a music video piece now I am confident that I will be able to create my own music video and be able to direct, produce and edit my piece. The task has given me great confidence and now I can’t wait to produce my own music video.

Shot By Shot Comparison

Overall looking at the shots i think that we did well on getting a similar shot. Considering we only had 2 weeks we achieved alot better than what we thought. It was difficult to find the same settings but we compromised well and created similar looking shots that we are all happy with.

Editing

We have edited half of our music video today the first half has ran really smoothly and the lip syncing matches, our problem is that the other half of the video is not in time, we have tried slowing down and speeding up the pace of the shot however we can’t get it perfect, this is because when we shot the video she was singing the same line but at the wrong time of the song. This is something I need to take ahead with me when planning my own music video. Another problem is the composition of the Shots they change and should all be centre framed this is something else I need to look into and plan to do some research on composition so I can achieve the best in my music video.

Finishing Filming.

Our filming ran overtime we had planned to finished by 5/10/12 but it didn’t happen the shots had took us longer than we planned and we did each shot 3 times to make sure that we had the perfect shot. We now have only 2 shots left to film so we plan to have them done by 8/10/12 so that we can start editing next week.

Problem with Shot 8.

Problems With Shot  8:
Our problem with shot 8 was that it was in an old fashioned convertible car, we couldn’t get hold of the car and none of us could drive so arrangements had to be made. We decided to change the shot to a tracking shot from the front of Charlotte it just replaces the shot and makes the filming easier, we don’t think that it will change the video drastically.

Locations

Location:
Shot 1: Pond near Wilson
Shot 2,6 and 11: Bricknell Avenue
Shot 3 and 12: Oak 36
Shot 4 and 9: Outside college grounds near the gate.
Shot 5 and 10: Balcony Oak
Shot 7 and 8: Bricknell Avenue

Actress

We chose Charlotte to perform in our music video because she was part of our group so we knew we could rely on her to come to the lesson and shoot it for us. She also knew the song really well which was an advantage to us because she would be able to get the lip-syncing better. She also fits the style of music better because it's the type of music she listens to and music has an influence on us which makes us dress and appear like their 'role model' and it creates a steryotype and Charlotte fits this steryotype better than anyone else.

Problems with our storyboard.

Our group all had done music videos that where situated in places that we wouldn’t be able to get to. Marks were set on a boat along with Dave’s and Mine was in forest.  So to be able to reconstruct the video we needed to find a video to use and create a new storyboard. We chose Lucy Rose middle of the bed because we were able to reach similar settings and create a similar piece. The song also contained lip-syncing which gave us the experience to work with this in the editing suite.

Planning

We have been set a task to reconstruct 30 seconds of an existing music video. The task is to be done in groups there are 5 people in our group. We have planned to be filming by the 02/10/12 and finish filming by the 5/10/12 which will leave us 3 media lessons and our spare time to edit the music video. The reason we have done it like this is because we all want to gain experience using the camera and editing, 2 of us already knew how to edit so it was fair that we showed them how to use the machines and everyone got a chance to experience filming and editing.
